The River Road African American Museum’s Rosenwald School open house is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 21, 511 Williams St., Donaldsonville.
Trunk-or-Treat Thursday
The Arc of East Ascension is holding a trunk-or-treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Arc, 1122 S. East Ascension Complex Blvd., Gonzales.

Cornucopia decorating contest
Stop by the Dutchtown Library and pick up some basic supplies and use any materials from home to make a cornucopia for a library contest. Bring your finished showpiece back before Nov. 11 to be featured in the library’s display.
Library staff and visitors will vote for their favorites. The cornucopia with the most votes will receive a prize. All cornucopias will be displayed until Dec. 1.
Virtual author talks
Ascension Parish Library offers a free monthly virtual author talk series that provides opportunities to hear from bestselling, award-winning and acclaimed authors from around the world. Tune in to connect with your favorite authors and participate in the conversations or watch the recordings of past presentations independently.
Participants can submit questions for the authors to answer during the live events. Find the library’s author webpage by visiting myAPL.org and clicking Events > Author Talks.

Couvillon to talk at GOP Roundtable
John Couvillon is the speaker for the October Ascension GOP Roundtable set for 11:30 a.m. Oct. 19.
The roundtable, sponsored by Ascension Republican Women, will be at the Clarion Inn, 1500 W. La. 30 in Gonzales.
A self-described “political nerd,” Couvillon has had a lifelong fascination with politics, particularly the analysis of voter and election data.

Career and Resource Fair
Explore jobs, careers and educational opportunities with organizations from the community at Ascension Parish Library’s Career and Resource Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Gonzales branch. Job seekers will be able to meet with representatives from participating companies and discuss available positions and application processes. Professional attire is recommended. Bringing a copy of your resume is encouraged.
The library seeking employers and businesses that are looking to fill job vacancies to participate in this event. There is no cost to sign up and refreshments will be provided. For your use during the event, the library will provide a table and two chairs. Space is limited, including quiet space to hold interviews, and booth space is filling quickly. Trinity AME Church, 1620 S. Darla Ave., Gonzales, is hosing a food and gospel music program from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct 21.
RAMM sets genealogy workshop
On Saturday, River Road African American Museum is hosting a genealogy workshop to help you uncover your family’s past. This event is perfect for millennials, older adults, and anyone else who want to learn more about their heritage. Experienced genealogist Gaynell Brady will be leading the workshop.
Registration is $25 per person and attendees should bring their own note-taking materials and, if possible, laptops. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to noon. Pumpkin Patch in Prairieville
The NewSong Community Church pumpkin patch, at the corner of Old Perkins and Bluff Road in Prairieville, is open through Oct. 31. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon-6 p.m. on Sundays. All proceeds from the patch go to church missions.
Pumpkins and gourds of all shapes and sizes from the Navajo of northern New Mexico will be available for purchase. Additionally, jellies and salsas from the Methodist Children’s Home will be for sale, as well as assorted other treats.
The site has several pieces of vintage playground equipment, tractor tire sandbox, cornhole, horseshoes, several picture opportunities and a covered pavilion with picnic tables. Free hayrides are available on the weekends.
Morning field trips include hayride, craft, and a pie-sized pumpkin. Schools or day care groups can register for field trips at www.newsongcommunity.church/pumpkinpatch.
NewSong will also host a free Fall Festival from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28. Live music, free jambalaya, local vendors, youth bake sale, face painting, inflatables, games, and crafts will be just a few attractions available.
Garney Gautreau Sock Hop planned
Ascension Parish Government is sponsoring the October Garney Gautreau Sock Hop from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The lunch and dance are Oct. 27 and Halloween costumes are encourages. Mike Broussard and Night Train are set to play.
Glen Oaks Class on 1973 reunion
The Glen Oaks High School Class of 1973 will hold its 50 year reunion from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Nov. 18. A meal will be served at Big Mike’s Restaurant & Sports Bar, 123 Aspen Square, Denham Springs. The Eddie Smith Band will play. The event itself is free, attendees will be responsible for covering the cost of food and drinks.
