Voting Rights and Reparations: A Conversation with California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber

Across the country, efforts to restrict voting rights are on the rise. California, however, has led efforts to challenge these movements and to promote racial justice. California Secretary of State Dr. Shirley Weber is a key leader in this fight.

Shirley Nash Weber, Ph.D. was nominated to serve as California Secretary of State by Governor Gavin Newsom on December 22, 2020 & sworn into office on January 29, 2021. Weber is California’s first Black Secretary of State.

Join Dean Sean Scott and Scholar-in-Residence Priscilla Ocen for a conversation with Dr. Shirley Weber to discuss her work to ensure access to the ballot and to study the feasibility of reparations for slavery in California. Please register via Eventbrite to attend what promises to be a dynamic conversation!
