LWC Studios has debuted a new original podcast, Still Paying the Price, centered around the concept of contemporary reparations and restitution for Black Americans. The series aims to delve deeper into the experiences of those directly affected by the enduring legacy of American slavery and systemic racism.
Each episode delves into various fields such as sciences, music, and home ownership, highlighting stories of past and present where Black Americans have been wronged. The project is supported by grants from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
Co-editor of Still Paying the Price, Pamela Kirkland, said, “With advancements in technology and genealogy research, descendants of the enslaved now have unprecedented opportunities to uncover their history, roots, and identity. While this is a beautiful development, it also raises profound questions about the buried stories—whether intentionally or not—and the debt owed to these descendants.”
