The second annual Black Men’s Health Conference will take place on Saturday, March 29th from 8:00am to 1:00pm at the Carbondale Civic Center. The year’s theme, “I Am My Brother’s Keeper,” emphasizes the importance of community support surrounding health and wellness. The conference will offer engaging and informative sessions, free wellness screenings, and valuable resources from local community vendors.
The morning will begin with free wellness screenings tailored by age group, including blood pressure checks, cholesterol and blood sugar screenings, and colorectal cancer screening (FIT) kits. While exploring the Vendor Hall, attendees will have the opportunity to experience a live mobile kitchen cooking demonstration that will showcase practical ways to prepare healthy meals.
Participants will then have the chance to attend a variety of breakout sessions centered on topics ranging from healthy lifestyles, mental health, spiritual health, prostate health, physical activity and fitness. Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy light refreshments and will have the chance to win door prizes.
This free event is open to the public and is designed to support and uplift men of color in our community. While registration is encouraged, it is not required to attend. For more information, please contact Dr. Fanta Saidou Hangadoumbo at Fanta.Saidou@sih.net.
This event is made possible through the collaboration of Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH), Health and Social Inclusion Diversity Network (HSIDN), Jackson County Health Department (JCHD), the City of Carbondale, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and NAACP Carbondale.
