Dr. Winston Carhee, Health, and Wellness Chair of 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc. joined On Point with Juandolyn Stokes to invite listeners to their free community service event, “Tackling Childhood Obesity & Type II Diabetes at B.E.S.T. Academy gymnasium on Saturday, August 12 from 10 am-2 pm.
The purpose of this forum is to raise awareness and provide practical solutions to combat these prevalent health issues.
Carhee says we [100 Black Men of Atlanta] are leading by example to help our community. We are showing younger brothers and sisters that health is important.
“We are holding this event in one of the most impoverished zip codes. African American kids from Atlanta Public School benefit with mentorship. The best success is to get a mentor, a key pillar in our organization along with education, economic empowerment, and health and wealth wellness,” added Carhee.
Morehouse School of Medicine will be on-hand for the adults to administer PSA blood tests to men to check their prostate and blood glucose test to check for diabetes. “30% of people have prediabetes or diabetes,” said Carhee.
There will also be fun for children with the Atlanta Falcons players and cheerleaders, food trucks, games, and celebration for the community.
